How to Replace Ink in the XP-4100
- Power on the XP-4100 and open the front output tray, then lift the scanner unit.
- Wait for the cartridge carriage to slide to the access position.
- Squeeze the release tab and pull the empty cartridge straight up.
- If it is the black cartridge, shake it four or five times before you unpack it. Epson says not to shake the color cartridges. Peel off the yellow tape and click the cartridge into the correct slot.
- Lower the scanner unit and select Completed on the screen. Ink charging takes a few minutes; don't turn the printer off until it finishes.

Cartridge not recognized: Remove the cartridge, wipe the gold chip with a lint-free cloth, and reinstall it firmly until it clicks.
Faded or banded output: Run two or three Head Cleaning cycles from Setup > Maintenance and print a nozzle check.
