What Ink Does the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7820 Use?

The high-capacity Epson 812XL versions fit too, and so does an extra-high-capacity 812XXL black. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 812XL Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and a 4-pack.
The WF-7820 takes the same ink as its sibling, the WorkForce Pro WF-7840, which adds a second paper tray. Epson 822 cartridges from the WF-48xx series look similar but don't fit, and the European model (WF-7830) takes Epson 405, which won't fit a U.S. printer either.

Is 812XL Worth It?
Yes. Each 812XL holds more than three times the ink of a standard color cartridge. On October 15, 2026, Staples listed Epson's 812XL black at $47.99 (about 4.4¢ a page) and the 812XL cyan at $43.49. How Do I Replace the Ink in the Epson WF-7820?
- With the printer on, tap 'How to' on the ink message, or go to Settings, Maintenance, then Ink Cartridge(s) Replacement.
- Lift the scanner unit until it locks, then open the ink cartridge cover.
- Shake the new cartridge four or five times, unpack it and peel off only the yellow tape, without touching the green chip.
- Squeeze and lift out the old cartridge, then press the new one in until it clicks.
- Close the cover, lower the scanner unit and leave the printer on for about 90 seconds while the ink charges.
