What Ink Does the HP OfficeJet 100 Mobile Use?

Quick answer: The HP OfficeJet 100 Mobile uses two cartridges: an HP 94 or HP 98 black and an HP 95 or HP 97 tri-color. For photos you can swap the black for a photo cartridge. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured HP 94 Black, HP 98 Black, HP 95 Tri-color, HP 97 Tri-color, HP 99 Photo and a 94 + 95 combo pack.

HP lists all four cartridges on its page-yield sheet for the OfficeJet 100 Mobile L411 series (model L411a, product number CN551A). It takes the same black and tri-color cartridges as the OfficeJet H470, the mobile printer it replaced. HP's user guide notes that different cartridge numbers are sold in different countries, so if you bought your printer outside the U.S., check the number on the cartridge you have.

The photo cartridge replaces the black, and its yield is a seller-listed figure. HP's user guide says the printer takes a photo cartridge but doesn't name the number. 4inkjets lists the HP 99 for this printer. We couldn't confirm that the HP 100 gray photo cartridge fits.

Are the HP 94 and HP 97 Worth It?

Yes, if you can choose. HP rates the 94 black at about 500 pages in this printer against 440 for the 98, and the 97 tri-color at about 600 pages against 330 for the 95. On October 21, 2026, 4inkjets listed HP's 94 black at $53.45 (about 10.7¢ a page), 98 black at $49.52 (about 11.3¢ a page), 95 tri-color at $75.99 (about 23¢ a page) and 97 tri-color at $84.99 (about 14.2¢ a page), all backordered. How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP OfficeJet 100 Mobile?

  1. Unpack the new cartridge and pull the colored tab to remove the protective film. Hold it by its black plastic sides, with the label on top.
  2. With the printer on, open the front access cover and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  3. Lift the latch on the cartridge you are replacing and carefully take the old cartridge out.
  4. Slide the new cartridge in at the same angle the old one came out. The symbol on the latch should match the symbol on the cartridge.
  5. Close the latch until it lies flat on the cartridge, then close the front cover. Wait for the carriage to return to the left side, then align the cartridges from the Toolbox (Windows) or HP Utility (Mac).

Which Other Printers Use HP 94, 95, 97 and 98?

The OfficeJet H470 mobile printer takes the same black and tri-color cartridges. The HP 94, 95 and 97 also fit desktop models such as the DeskJet 6540 and 6940, the OfficeJet 7310 and 7410, and the Photosmart 2610 and 8450. Not every one of those takes the HP 98, so check the black cartridge for each model.

What OfficeJet 100 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in HP's support community and owner reviews, answered in our words.

Does the HP 94 black really fit?

Yes. HP's page-yield sheet for the OfficeJet 100 lists the HP 94, rated at about 500 pages. An owner in HP's community was told otherwise because HP's online supplies store didn't show the 94 for this printer, and an HP agent later confirmed it should work. The HP 98 is the cartridge HP most often paired with this printer.

It stopped printing and says the ink service module is full.

The OfficeJet 100 collects waste ink from the black cartridge in a replaceable ink service module. When the lights say it's full, printing stops and HP's guide says to contact HP for a new module. Until then you can take the black cartridge out and print with the tri-color only. Don't let it overflow, as the black ink stains.

Can I print from my phone or tablet?

It connects by USB or Bluetooth only. There is no Wi-Fi. Owners in HP's community and in Amazon reviews report trouble pairing over Bluetooth, and many say iPhones and iPads can't print to it at all. A laptop over USB is the most reliable way to use it.

Can it print with one cartridge?

Yes. With only the tri-color installed it prints in color and grayscale. With only the black or photo cartridge it prints everything in grayscale. HP says quality and speed may suffer, so treat it as a stopgap.

OfficeJet 100 quirks worth knowing

  • It runs on a rechargeable battery, which HP says can print about 500 pages on a charge. That's also the monthly duty cycle PCMag reported.
  • The input tray holds 50 sheets. The USB and PictBridge camera ports are on the back, which PCMag found awkward.
  • It's slow. PCMag timed 1.8 pages a minute on business documents and about 3 minutes for a 4 x 6 photo with the photo cartridge.
  • It reads USB flash drives formatted as FAT, FAT32 or exFAT, and HP's guide lists Windows XP to Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 as supported systems.
