What Toner Does the Brother MFC-L2760DW Use?
Last Updated:Quick answer: The Brother MFC-L2760DW uses Brother TN830 toner (about 1,200 pages) or the high-yield TN830XL (about 3,000 pages), and a separate DR830 drum unit (about 15,000 pages). It is a compact black-and-white laser all-in-one with fax and a 50-sheet document feeder.
It does not take the 5,000-page TN835: Brother lists that cartridge only for the HL-L2865DW and MFC-L2980DW. It also doesn't take the older TN760, which marketplace listings often lump in with the TN830. Castle Ink sells compatible TN830, TN830XL and DR830 for it.

What Toner Does the Brother MFC-L2760DW Take?
| Cartridge | Brother part no. | Approx. yield | Castle Ink option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brother TN830 (standard) | TN830 | ~1,200 pages | Castle Ink TN830, $39.95 |
| Brother TN830XL (high yield) | TN830XL | ~3,000 pages | Castle Ink TN830XL, $59.95 |
| Brother DR830 drum unit | DR830 | ~15,000 pages | Castle Ink DR830, $75.95 |
Toner yields are Brother's ISO/IEC 19752 figures; the drum rating is about 15,000 pages at one page per job. The toner in the box is a starter cartridge rated at about 700 pages, and a DR830 drum comes with the printer. Brother also sells a TN830V value cartridge (about 3,300 pages) through warehouse clubs.
TN830XL vs. Brother's Price
On October 25, 2026, Brother USA and Staples listed the Original TN830XL at $98.29 and the DR830 drum at $157.99 (Brother USA). That is about 3.3¢ a page for toner plus about 1.1¢ for the drum. Our compatible TN830XL is $59.95 and our compatible DR830 is $75.95, which brings the all-in cost to about 2.5¢ a page. If you print more than a ream or two a month, the XL is the better buy at either price: it holds two and a half times the toner of a TN830 for less than double the money.
Will Compatible TN830 Toner Work?
Yes. Brother printers don't use HP-style dynamic security, and in March 2025 Brother publicly denied that its firmware updates block third-party toner, while noting that a "genuine check" during troubleshooting may ask for Brother supplies. Brother's warranty doesn't cover damage caused by non-Brother supplies. One exception: cartridges from Brother's Refresh EZ Print subscription stop working if you cancel the subscription.
How Do I Replace the Toner in the MFC-L2760DW?
- With the machine on, open the front cover.
- Lift out the toner cartridge and drum unit together as one assembly.
- Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.
- Unpack the new cartridge, remove its protective cover, and shake it gently side to side a few times.
- Push it firmly into the drum unit until it locks into place.
- Clean the corona wire by sliding the green tab left and right a few times, then return it to its home position (a tab left out of place can cause a vertical stripe).
- Slide the assembly back in and close the front cover. Leave the machine on until it shows Ready.

What MFC-L2760DW owners ask
These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, manufacturer support communities and owner reviews, answered in our words.
Can the document feeder scan or copy both sides automatically?
No. The 50-sheet feeder is one-sided only; Brother lists two-sided scanning and copying as not supported. Automatic two-sided printing is supported.
How long will the toner in the box last?
It is a starter cartridge rated at about 700 pages. A retail TN830 gives about 1,200 pages and a TN830XL about 3,000.
Do I need a new drum with every toner?
No. The DR830 drum is separate and rated at about 15,000 pages, so several toner cartridges go through one drum.
Does it have Ethernet? Does it work with a Mac?
Brother's spec sheet lists dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct and USB, with no wired Ethernet. Macs print and scan through AirPrint.
Will the TN835 super high-yield toner fit?
Brother lists the TN835 only for the HL-L2865DW and MFC-L2980DW. For the MFC-L2760DW the highest-yield Brother cartridges are the TN830XL and the club-store TN830V.
MFC-L2760DW quirks worth knowing
- Its 30 ppm rating is for one-sided printing. Two-sided printing is the default, so change the setting if speed matters more than paper.
- Brother advises leaving a new cartridge sealed until you're ready to install it.
- Consumer Reports' test notes call its Wi-Fi setup more tedious than usual, so a USB connection is a handy fallback during setup.
- It has a 2-line LCD rather than a touchscreen, and a 250-sheet tray plus a single-sheet manual slot.
