What Toner Does the Brother MFC-L2807DW Use?
Last Updated:Quick answer: The Brother MFC-L2807DW uses Brother TN830 toner (about 1,200 pages) or the high-yield TN830XL (about 3,000 pages), and a separate DR830 drum unit (about 15,000 pages). It is the warehouse-club version of the MFC-L2820DW, sold at Costco and BJ's.
It does not take the 5,000-page TN835: Brother lists that cartridge only for the HL-L2865DW and MFC-L2980DW. It also doesn't take the older TN760, which marketplace listings often lump in with the TN830. Castle Ink sells compatible TN830, TN830XL and DR830 for it.

What Toner Does the Brother MFC-L2807DW Take?
| Cartridge | Brother part no. | Approx. yield | Castle Ink option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brother TN830 (standard) | TN830 | ~1,200 pages | Castle Ink TN830, $39.95 |
| Brother TN830XL (high yield) | TN830XL | ~3,000 pages | Castle Ink TN830XL, $59.95 |
| Brother DR830 drum unit | DR830 | ~15,000 pages | Castle Ink DR830, $75.95 |
Toner yields are Brother's ISO/IEC 19752 figures; the drum rating is about 15,000 pages at one page per job. This club model ships with a larger starter toner rated at about 1,200 pages (similar Brother models get 700), plus a DR830 drum. Brother also sells a TN830V value cartridge (about 3,300 pages) through warehouse clubs.
TN830XL vs. Brother's Price
On October 25, 2026, Brother USA and Staples listed the Original TN830XL at $98.29 and the DR830 drum at $157.99 (Brother USA). That is about 3.3¢ a page for toner plus about 1.1¢ for the drum. Our compatible TN830XL is $59.95 and our compatible DR830 is $75.95, which brings the all-in cost to about 2.5¢ a page. If you print more than a ream or two a month, the XL is the better buy at either price: it holds two and a half times the toner of a TN830 for less than double the money.
Will Compatible TN830 Toner Work?
Yes. Brother printers don't use HP-style dynamic security, and in March 2025 Brother publicly denied that its firmware updates block third-party toner, while noting that a "genuine check" during troubleshooting may ask for Brother supplies. Brother's warranty doesn't cover damage caused by non-Brother supplies. One exception: cartridges from Brother's Refresh EZ Print subscription stop working if you cancel the subscription.
How Do I Replace the Toner in the MFC-L2807DW?
- With the machine on, open the front cover.
- Lift out the toner cartridge and drum unit together as one assembly.
- Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.
- Unpack the new cartridge, remove its protective cover, and shake it gently side to side a few times.
- Push it firmly into the drum unit until it locks into place.
- Clean the corona wire by sliding the green tab left and right a few times, then return it to its home position (a tab left out of place can cause a vertical stripe).
- Slide the assembly back in and close the front cover. Leave the machine on until it shows Ready.
Which Other Printers Use TN830 and DR830?
Brother lists the same TN830, TN830XL and DR830 for the HL-L2400D, HL-L2405W, HL-L2420DW, HL-L2460DW, HL-L2465DW, HL-L2480DW, HL-L2865DW, DCP-L2640DW, DCP-L2647DW, MFC-L2820DW, MFC-L2900DW and MFC-L2980DW, and Brother's MFC-L2760DW page lists them too. What MFC-L2807DW owners ask
These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, manufacturer support communities and owner reviews, answered in our words.
How long will the toner in the box last?
About 1,200 pages. Brother gives this club model a bigger starter cartridge than the 700-page one in similar printers; Consumer Reports measured about 1,133 pages.
Can I use the TN835 super high-yield cartridge?
Brother doesn't list it: the TN835 is for the HL-L2865DW and MFC-L2980DW only. Use TN830 or TN830XL.
Does the document feeder scan both sides?
No. Two-sided scanning, copying and faxing aren't supported; only printing is automatically two-sided.
Why does it still say Replace Drum after I put in a new drum?
The drum counter has to be reset after a drum swap. Brother has an FAQ on this for the twin MFC-L2820DW, and a similar one for a Replace Toner message that stays on after a toner change.
Is it different from the MFC-L2820DW?
Very little. ENERGY STAR groups the two together. The club version adds the bigger starter toner and a 2-year warranty.
MFC-L2807DW quirks worth knowing
- It's a club-only model, so supply listings on Amazon or Best Buy often don't mention it. Shop by the TN830 and DR830 numbers.
- Two-sided printing is the default; Brother's 34 ppm rating is for one-sided pages.
- Brother recommends keeping the firmware updated for the most accurate toner-level readings.
- It has a 2.7-inch color touchscreen, Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi, and a 250-sheet tray.
