Common questions about Canon PIXMA TS5320 ink
Standard or XL: which should I buy?
XL, unless you print very little. Canon rates PG-260XL at 400 pages against 180 for the standard PG-260, and CL-261XL at 300 pages against 180 for CL-261. What other printers use PG-260/CL-261 ink?
The same cartridges fit the PIXMA TR7020, TS6420, TS6420A, TR7020a, and TR7022. If you own two of these printers, one stock of cartridges covers both.
Will other Canon cartridges fit the TS5320?
No. PG-240/CL-241, PG-245/CL-246, and PG-275/CL-276 (used by the PIXMA TR4720) look similar but are different shapes. The portable PIXMA TR150 uses PGI-35/CLI-36, not PG-260. Always match the number printed on your current cartridge.
Are compatible or remanufactured cartridges safe for the TS5320?
Yes. We have found no sign that Canon blocks non-Canon cartridges on this model, and using them doesn't void your warranty under U.S. law. The printer may show a message about a non-genuine or refilled cartridge; choose OK or Continue and print normally. How do I replace the ink in the TS5320?
Turn the printer on and lift the scanning unit / cover; the cartridge holder moves to the replacement position. Lift the ink cartridge locking cover over the empty cartridge and take the cartridge out. Unpack the new cartridge, peel off the protective tape (don't touch the gold contacts or the nozzles), put it in the slot, then push the locking cover down until it clicks. What does support code 1686 or 1688 mean?
Code 1686 means the printer can no longer estimate how much ink is left, which is normal after a cartridge runs very low or when a refilled or remanufactured cartridge is installed. Press and hold Stop for about 5 seconds to keep printing; this turns off ink-level detection for that cartridge only. Code 1688 means the ink has run out. See Printer error codes explained.
Why are TS5320 prints faded, streaky, or missing a color?
On this printer the print head is part of each cartridge, so a fresh cartridge often fixes nozzle problems. Before you replace one, run a nozzle check and one or two cleanings from the printer or the Canon driver. If one color is missing from the color cartridge, that color is empty and the whole cartridge needs replacing. Does the TS5320 work on Wi-Fi?
Yes, but on 2.4 GHz only (802.11b/g/n), so it won't join a 5 GHz-only network. It also has Bluetooth 4.0 LE and USB, and works with the Canon PRINT app. If it keeps dropping off the network, make sure your router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz band. Setup help: How to connect a printer to Wi-Fi.
Is PG-260 the same as PG-245?
No. PG-260/CL-261 is a newer, differently shaped family. PG-245/CL-246 cartridges won't fit the TS5320.

Can I print with only the black cartridge installed?
No. Canon's manual says both the color and the black cartridge must be installed for the printer to work, so keep a spare of each.
How many 4x6 photos will a color cartridge print?
Canon rates the CL-261XL at about 106 4x6 photos and the standard CL-261 at about 69. Photos use far more ink than text pages.
Where do I load photo paper?
In the rear tray, which takes up to 20 sheets of 4x6 photo paper. Plain paper goes in the 100-sheet front cassette, so you can keep both loaded.
Can it scan a stack of pages?
No. There is no document feeder. The scanner is a flatbed (up to 8.5 x 11.7 in), so multi-page documents go one sheet at a time.
Can I still buy a TS5320 new?
It is getting hard. Best Buy lists it as no longer available new, though the TS5320a variant still turns up at some Canadian resellers. PG-260 and CL-261 cartridges are still easy to find.
TS5320 quirks worth knowing
- You reach the cartridges by lifting the scanning unit, not through a front door. Each cartridge then sits under its own locking cover that you push down until it clicks.
- The XL cartridges are not equally generous. PG-260XL holds 14.3 ml against 7.5 ml in the standard black, nearly double, but CL-261XL holds 12.2 ml against 8.3 ml, less than 50% more.
- The status display is a small 1.44-inch OLED with an LED status bar, not an LCD or touchscreen, so most settings are easier to change from the Canon PRINT app.
- Canon also lists wireless PictBridge, for printing straight from a compatible camera without a computer.
