What Ink Does the Epson Expression Home XP-300 Use?

Quick answer: The Epson Expression Home XP-300 uses four Epson 200 cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. The high-capacity Epson 200XL versions fit too. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 200XL Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.

The XP-300 takes the same ink as the XP-310, which followed it in 2013, and the XP-400 and XP-410. Outside North America the XP-300 used region-coded cartridges, and the UK model used a different ink family altogether, so buy cartridges sold for the U.S. or Canada.

Discontinued. Epson launched the XP-300 in 2012 and now lists it as discontinued. The XP-310, which uses the same Epson 200 ink, followed in 2013. Epson 200 and 200XL cartridges are still sold.

Is 200XL Worth It?

Yes. A 200XL black prints about 500 pages, nearly three times a standard 200, and PCWorld called XL ink costs above average on the sibling XP-400. On October 16, 2026, Staples listed Epson's 200XL black at $34.59 (about 6.9¢ a page) and the 200XL cyan at $19.59. Epson's own store had them at $31.49 and $17.79. Our remanufactured 200XL cartridges are $9.95 each, about 2¢ a page for black.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the Epson XP-300?

  1. Turn the printer on. When the screen reports an expended cartridge, note which one and press OK.
  2. Lift the scanner unit. Press the tab on the back of the old cartridge and lift it straight out.
  3. Shake the new cartridge four or five times, unpack it and remove only the yellow tape, without touching the green chip.
  4. Push the cartridge into its slot until it clicks, then lower the scanner unit.
  5. Press OK to start loading ink. It takes about four minutes; don't turn the printer off until it finishes.

Which Other Printers Use Epson 200?

The Expression Home XP-200, XP-310, XP-400 and XP-410, and the WorkForce WF-2520, WF-2530 and WF-2540.

What XP-300 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in Epson's support pages, Epson.com reviews and owner forums, answered in our words.

Can I print if one color cartridge is empty?

No. All four cartridges must be installed and have ink. Leave the empty one in place until you have the replacement.

Can I put back a cartridge I took out?

Epson's quick guide says a nearly empty cartridge can't be reinstalled and used once it's removed. Only take it out when the new one is ready.

It says W-12, cartridge not recognized.

Reseat the cartridge until it clicks. Make sure only the yellow tape is off and the green chip is clean and untouched. If it still isn't recognized, try another cartridge.

What does 'parts inside your printer are near the end of their service life' mean?

The waste ink pads are nearly full. After W-13 you can keep printing for a while. At E-10 the printer stops and needs Epson service, which is rarely worth it on a printer this old.

XP-300 quirks worth knowing

  • Epson rates it at 8.7 ISO pages a minute in black and 4.5 in color.
  • It has a 1.44-inch color screen and memory card slots for printing photos without a computer.
  • It prints two-sided only by hand: the driver tells you when to flip the paper. There's no document feeder and no Ethernet port.
  • If it sits unused, nozzles clog and prints fade or show gaps. Epson suggests printing a few pages at least once a month.
