What Ink Does the Epson Expression Home XP-310 Use?

Quick answer: The Epson Expression Home XP-310 Small-in-One uses four separate Epson 200 or high-capacity Epson 200XL cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. It does not take Epson 220, even though some sellers list it that way. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 200XL Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, plus a 200XL 5-pack.

The XP-310 shares its ink with the XP-410 and XP-400. In Europe the equivalent model (XP-312) uses Epson 18 "Daisy" cartridges, which won't work in a U.S. printer.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the Epson XP-310?

  1. Turn the printer on and lift the scanner unit.
  2. Start ink replacement from the control panel's Setup, Maintenance menu so the holder moves into place.
  3. Squeeze the tab on the empty cartridge and lift it out.
  4. Shake the new cartridge gently, remove the yellow tape, and press it in until it clicks.
  5. Close the scanner unit and confirm on the panel so the printer charges the ink.

Which Other Printers Use Epson 200?

What XP-310 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in Epson's owner reviews, its support pages and printer forums, answered in our words.

Why does the ink run out so fast?

Standard Epson 200 cartridges hold enough for about 165 to 175 pages, and every head cleaning uses ink too. XL cartridges roughly triple the page count.

Will it print black and white when a color is low?

Low is fine; expended isn't. Once any cartridge is marked expended, the printer stops until you replace it.

My new cartridge isn't recognized. What should I try?

Reseat it, make sure all tape is off and clean the chip contacts. Check it's a 200, not a 220. Epson's support pages note that some non-Epson cartridges aren't recognized after firmware updates.

It keeps losing its Wi-Fi connection. Any fix?

Print a network status sheet, move the printer closer to the router and give it a fixed IP address in your router settings. Reinstalling the current Epson driver helps on Windows 10 and 11.

It says out of paper when there's paper loaded.

Fan the stack, load fewer sheets and slide the edge guide against the paper. Dusty rollers cause this too; wipe them with a damp lint-free cloth.

XP-310 quirks worth knowing

  • Epson released it in 2013; it's discontinued and Epson names no direct replacement.
  • Epson rates it at about 8.7 ISO pages a minute in black and 4.5 in color.
  • It has a small 1.44-inch display, SD and Memory Stick Duo slots, Wi-Fi Direct and AirPrint.
  • The rear feeder holds 100 sheets; there's no document feeder or fax.
