What XP-400 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in Epson's owner reviews, PCWorld's review and Epson's support pages, answered in our words.

Why are there blank lines in my prints?

Clogged nozzles. Run a nozzle check and a head cleaning, wait a few minutes, then check again. If two cleanings don't fix it, let the printer rest for several hours before trying once more, since each cleaning uses ink.

Black stopped printing after I changed a cartridge.

Reseat the black cartridge, make sure its tape is off, then run a nozzle check. A cartridge that sat unopened for a long time may need a cleaning cycle to start flowing.

Can it print two-sided?

Only manually, and Epson's manual two-sided option works from Windows.

Does Epson still support it?

Epson lists the XP-400 as discontinued and end of support, and names the Expression Home XP-4200 as the replacement. Drivers already released still install on current Windows and macOS.
