What Ink Does the HP ENVY 6020e Use?
Last Updated:Quick answer: the HP ENVY 6020e uses HP 67 ink — a two-cartridge setup with a pigment black and a dye tri-color. The high-yield versions are the HP 67XL black and tri-color, and they are the only ones worth buying for most people.
If you have been told this printer takes HP 65 or HP 63, that is wrong, and it is the most common ink-buying mistake on this model. Those belong to the older DeskJet 2600 and 3700 generations. They are keyed differently and will not work.

Those yields are HP's own ISO figures. They are low — that is not a misprint. A two-cartridge printer at this price point is built to be cheap to buy, not cheap to feed, which is exactly why the XL and XXL versions matter so much here.
HP 67 vs 67XL: is the XL worth it?
Yes, essentially always. The XL black prints roughly twice the pages of the standard for nowhere near twice the price, and the same is true of the tri-color. The standard cartridges exist mainly so the printer can ship with something inside it.
The practical rule: if you print more than a page or two a month, buy XL. If you print so rarely that ink dries out before you finish a cartridge, still buy XL — and print a test page every couple of weeks to keep the nozzles clear. Our guide to whether ink cartridges dry out covers why.
What about 67XXL?
The HP 67XXL black (3YM59AN) exists and holds roughly 400 pages — about 3.3 times the standard cartridge. Very few sites list it, which is a shame, because on a printer this thirsty it is the single best-value black you can fit. There is also a 67XXL tri-color (6ZA16AN), though it is genuinely rare at retail.

About the HP ENVY 6020e
The ENVY 6020e is a compact home all-in-one from the same family as the 6055e and 6155e — print, scan, copy, automatic duplex, and the same two-cartridge HP 67 ink system.

Common problems on this model
"Cartridge problem" or "non-genuine cartridge"
Remove the cartridge, wipe the copper contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, and click it firmly back in until it stops. Then power-cycle: off, unplug at the wall for 60 seconds, back on. Streaky or missing lines
