What Ink Does the HP ENVY 6152e Use?
Last Updated:Quick answer: The HP ENVY 6152e uses HP 68 ink: HP 68 Black (7FP21TN, about 160 pages), HP 68 Tri-Color (7FP20TN, about 120 pages), or the higher-capacity HP 68e EvoMore Black (7FP22TN, about 320 pages). HP does not make a "68XL" or a high-yield tri-color.
It does not take HP 67 or 67XL, which fit the older ENVY 6000 and 6400 printers. Even an HP Community support reply in July 2026 named HP 67 for a 6100e-series printer, so double-check the number before you buy. Castle Ink does not stock HP 68 yet; we link to it below.

HP ENVY 6152e (Scored on HP ENVY 6152e ratings)
| Pillar (weight) | Score | What it is based on |
|---|---|---|
| Owner ratings (28%) | 82 | 4.2★ average across 1,608 ratings at Walmart Canada; no U.S. retailer had a reliable rating pool for the 6152e itself |
| Expert reviews (18%) | — | No published numeric expert score we could verify for the 6152e. |
| Cost per page (24%) | 21 | About 20.8¢ per page blended (black + color) with Original HP 68e EvoMore black and HP 68 tri-color at Staples prices (we don't sell HP 68). Docked because the printer can reject cartridges without the maker's chip. |
| Reliability (13%) | 85 | Most-reported problems: cartridge-not-recognized errors after swaps (often the wrong HP 67 cartridge); output tray that doesn't extend |
| Features (12%) | 68 | Print, copy, flatbed scan, send-only mobile fax, auto two-sided printing, dual-band Wi-Fi and USB, 2.4-inch touchscreen. No document feeder or Ethernet. |
| Value (5%) | 52 | Running cost and owner satisfaction against a price of about $90–$120 |
Limited data: We could not find a published numeric expert score for this printer, so that weight is spread across the other pillars.
Limited availability. Walmart Canada still sells it new; in the U.S. it mostly turns up open-box, and HP has replaced its 6155e twin with the ENVY 6155.

What Ink Does the HP ENVY 6152e Take?
| Cartridge | HP part no. (U.S.) | Approx. yield | Where to buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP 68 Black | 7FP21TN | ~160 pages | Amazon |
| HP 68 Tri-Color | 7FP20TN | ~120 pages | Amazon |
| HP 68e EvoMore Black (high capacity) | 7FP22TN | ~320 pages | Amazon |
Yields are HP's ISO figures. The printer ships with setup cartridges, and HP doesn't publish their yield. Outside the U.S. the same printer family takes HP 308 cartridges, and HP's Asian pages use "TA" part numbers instead of the U.S. "TN" ones. What Does HP 68 Ink Cost per Page?
On October 25, 2026, Staples listed the HP 68e EvoMore Black at $55.99 and the HP 68 Tri-Color at $28.99, and B&H had the standard HP 68 Black at $26.89. That works out to about 17¢ a page for black with the EvoMore cartridge and about 24¢ a page for color. Those are high running costs, which is why HP pushes its Instant Ink subscription on this printer. Marketplace "68XL" cartridges claiming 650 pages are not HP products.
Will Non-HP Ink Work in the 6152e?
It depends on how the printer was set up. The 6152e is an HP+ printer: if HP+ was accepted at setup, HP requires an HP account, a constant internet connection and Original HP cartridges for the life of the printer, and HP Community experts say that choice can't be undone. If HP+ was declined, HP's dynamic security can still reject cartridges without an HP chip. Instant Ink cartridges stop working if you cancel the subscription, so switch to retail HP 68 cartridges at that point.
How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP ENVY 6152e?
- Turn the printer on.
- Lift the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Press lightly on the top of the old cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
- Unpack the new cartridge and pull off the plastic tape without touching the copper contacts or nozzles.
- Slide the cartridge into its slot and push it up until it clicks.
- Close the access door and follow the on-screen prompt to align the cartridges.
Which Other Printers Use HP 68?
Staples, B&H and HP list the HP ENVY 6155e, 6155, 6552e, 6555e, 6555 and 6558e, and HP's own list adds the DeskJet 2923, 2955 and 4355. The 6152e is part of HP's ENVY 6100e series, alongside the 6155e and 6165e.
What ENVY 6152e owners ask
These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, manufacturer support communities and owner reviews, answered in our words.
Does it have an automatic document feeder?
No. It scans from a flatbed only. Target's Q&A points buyers who need a feeder to the ENVY 6555e, which uses the same HP 68 ink.
Can it send and receive faxes?
It can only send, using Mobile Fax in the HP app. It can't receive faxes.
Can I connect it with a cable?
Yes, by USB 2.0, but the cable isn't included. There is no Ethernet port.
Will HP 67 cartridges fit?
No. The 6100e series uses HP 68 or 68e EvoMore in the U.S.; HP 67 is for the ENVY 6000 and 6400 series.
What happens if I cancel Instant Ink?
The subscription cartridges stop working after the billing cycle ends. Put in retail Original HP 68 cartridges instead.
ENVY 6152e quirks worth knowing
- HP's 6152e spec sheet lists an 80-sheet input tray and 9/6 pages per minute, while the U.S. 6155e is listed at 100 sheets and 10/7 ppm. Check your exact model before relying on specs.
- Only the black has a higher-capacity cartridge; the tri-color stays at about 120 pages.
- Accepting HP+ extends the warranty from one year to two, but permanently locks the printer to Original HP ink.
- Best Buy reviewers of the twin 6155e say the output tray doesn't extend on its own, so pull it out before printing.
