What Ink Does the HP ENVY 6155e Use?

That last point is where almost everyone goes wrong, and the confusion is completely understandable. HP's older ENVY 6000 and 6400 machines — the 6055e, 6455e, 6458e — really do take HP 67. The ENVY 6155e belongs to the newer ENVY 6100e series, which moved to HP's 68 family. Adjacent model numbers, different cartridge. If a listing offers you HP 67 for a 6155e, it is wrong, and the cartridge will not seat.

Those standard yields are low, and that is not a misprint — a two-cartridge printer at this price is built to be cheap to buy rather than cheap to feed. HP does not publish an ISO page figure for the 68e on its US store listing; it is the extra-capacity black in the family and lists at roughly twice the price of the standard black, so on any regular printing schedule it is the one to buy.
Read this before you buy any third-party ink
The ENVY 6155e is an HP+ eligible printer, and this matters more than anything else on this page. If you accepted HP+ during setup, HP requires Original HP cartridges to operate the machine — compatible and remanufactured cartridges will not work, and that is a contractual lock rather than a fault you can clear. HP+ printers also need an active internet connection to print.
If you declined HP+ at setup, third-party HP 68 works normally. If you are not sure which you chose, check whether the printer demands an HP account and internet access to function. About the HP ENVY 6155e
The ENVY 6155e is a compact home all-in-one: print, scan and copy, with automatic two-sided printing and a 100-sheet input tray. It sits in HP's ENVY 6100e series alongside the 6120e and 6165e, all of which share the HP 68 ink system.
Rated speeds are around 10 pages per minute black and 7 in color, which is modest but honest for the class. Connectivity is dual-band Wi-Fi with AirPrint and Mopria. The scanner is flatbed only — no ADF, no fax.
Common problems on this model
"Cartridge problem" or "non-genuine cartridge"
First check you are holding an HP 68 and not an HP 67 — that is the most common cause by a distance. If the part number is right, remove the cartridge, wipe the copper contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, and click it firmly back in until it stops. Then power-cycle: off, unplug at the wall for 60 seconds, back on. If the printer is enrolled in HP+ and the cartridge is not Original HP, no amount of reseating will clear it.
Streaky or missing lines
Run a printhead cleaning from HP Smart or the printer's own tools menu, then print a test page. Two cleaning cycles is the sensible limit — each one uses ink, and a third rarely fixes what the second did not. See faded or streaky prints.
Prints only in black, or only in color
This printer supports single-cartridge mode, so it will keep going with one cartridge installed. Quality drops and color is simulated from black — treat it as a stopgap, not a saving.
Will not connect to Wi-Fi

No, and this is the most common mistake made on this printer. HP 67 fits the ENVY 6000 and 6400 series and the DeskJet 2700 and 4100 series. The 6155e is in the ENVY 6100e series and takes HP 68.
What is the difference between HP 68 and HP 68e?
Both are black cartridges for the same slot. HP 68e is the higher-capacity option in HP's EvoMore range; HP 68 is the standard size. There is no XL tier in this family and no 68e tri-color.
Does the ENVY 6155e use the same ink as the 6055e?
