Chips, Printer Messages & Installation

Filling: open the scanner unit and the ink tank cap for one color. Remove the bottle cap, line the nozzle up with the matching tank inlet and stand the bottle upright; ink flows in and stops when the tank reaches the upper line. Close the tank cap firmly and repeat for the other colors.

After filling: close the scanner unit. If the printer asks, reset the ink level for the colors you filled from the control panel or Canon software.

Streaks or missing colors: print a nozzle check and run a cleaning from the maintenance menu. If a color stays missing, let the printer rest and run a deep cleaning once.

Compatible vs. Original Ink Bottles

Original Canon bottles are new from Canon and cost the most. Compatible bottles, like this one, are newly made in the USA to match the original color and fit the same tank ports, at a much lower price. Castle Ink sells compatible ink bottles and toner and remanufactured inkjet cartridges.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pages will this bottle print?

Canon rates its original GI-290 colors (70 ml) at about 7,000 pages each at standard coverage. This bottle holds 70 ml, so your page count depends on its fill compared with the original and on what you print.

Will the printer warn me about non-original ink?

Ink tank printers do not read chips on bottles. After filling, confirm or reset the ink level on the control panel if the printer asks.

Can I mix it with the ink already in the tank?

Yes. Top up the tank before it runs completely empty; the ink is matched to the original color.

Will this void my printer warranty?

No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original supply directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.

How long can I store it?

Keep bottles sealed and upright at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, and use within about 12 months of opening.

When will my order ship?

Orders placed by 4 PM ET, Monday through Friday, ship the same business day from Long Island, NY, by USPS (2–5 business days). Expedited 1–2 day delivery is available at checkout, and shipping is free on orders over $50.
