The Epson EcoTank ET-2720 uses Epson 522 EcoTank ink bottles in four colors: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Epson rates one 522 black bottle at about 4,500 pages and each color bottle at about 7,500 pages. There are no cartridges or chips; you refill the built-in tanks from bottles.

Common questions about Epson EcoTank ET-2720 ink

How long does a set of bottles last?

What other printers use Epson 522 ink?

Epson 522 bottles also fit the EcoTank ET-2400, ET-2800, ET-2803, and ET-4800.

Can I use Epson 502 bottles in the ET-2720?

No. Epson keys each bottle type so it only fits its own printers. 502 bottles are used by the ET-2750, ET-2850, ET-3850, ET-4850, and ET-15000 and won't fit or fill a 522 printer.

How do I refill the ink tanks?

Open the ink tank cover, open the cap on the color you're filling, remove the bottle cap and seal, and push the bottle straight onto the matching port. Ink flows in and stops automatically when the tank is full. Remove the bottle, close the tank cap and cover, then follow the on-screen or control-panel prompt to confirm the refill so the ink level resets. Do I need to reset the ink level after refilling?

Yes. EcoTanks don't read the ink level with a chip; they estimate it. After filling a tank, confirm the refill when the printer prompts you (or use the ink-level reset in the maintenance menu) so the estimate starts from full.

Are compatible EcoTank bottles safe?

Yes. EcoTank bottles have no chips, so firmware updates can't lock out compatible ink the way they can with cartridges. Use ink made for your exact bottle number, and don't mix brands in the same tank. Using third-party ink doesn't void your warranty under U.S. law. What if I let a tank run below the lower line?

Refill before the ink drops below the lower line. Running a tank dry can pull air into the ink lines and cause missing colors. If that happens, refill, run a nozzle check, and do one or two head cleanings. Epson's Power Cleaning clears air but uses a lot of ink, so save it for last.

Why are my prints faded or missing a color after refilling?

How long does an opened bottle last?

Store bottles upright, capped, at room temperature, and use them within the date printed on the box. Once you open a bottle, fill the tank completely or reseal it tightly and use it soon.

What does “Service Required” mean on an EcoTank?

Can I convert the ET-2720 to a sublimation printer?

Is the ET-2720 the same as the ET-2750 or ET-2760?

No. They look similar, but the ET-2750 and ET-2760 use Epson 502 bottles, while the ET-2720 uses 522. The bottles are keyed differently and aren't interchangeable. See the ET-2800 ink guide for the closest current 522 model.

Does the ET-2720 print double-sided?

Not automatically. It supports manual two-sided printing.

What ET-2720 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, Epson's support pages and owner reviews, answered in our words.

The printer asks me to reset the ink, but the tanks aren't empty. Why?

The ET-2720 estimates ink use from what it prints rather than measuring the tanks, so the prompt can appear with ink still left. Epson says to top up the tanks it flags, select those colors on the LCD and follow the prompts.

Head cleaning hasn't fixed the lines in my prints. What next?

Epson's next step is a Power Cleaning, run only when every tank is at least one-third full. If you need a second one, turn the printer off and wait at least 12 hours first. It uses a lot of ink and wears the ink pads.

Paper won't feed, or several sheets go through at once. What helps?

Load paper in the middle of the rear feeder with the edge guides snug, keep the stack below the arrow marks, fan the sheets first and keep the feeder guard clear. Load fewer sheets for two-sided jobs.

Why did my first set of bottles run out sooner than the rated yield?

Part of the ink in the box primes the printer. Epson's New Zealand spec sheet rates the included bottles at about 3,600 black and 6,500 color pages, against 4,500 and 7,500 for replacement bottles.

The Windows 11 installer stops responding. Is that known?

Yes. Epson's ET-2720 support page flags it as a known issue (article wa00981).

ET-2720 quirks worth knowing

  • Bought abroad? The same model number takes different bottles outside the U.S. The New Zealand and Australian ET-2720 uses 522 bottles with codes C13T00M192, 292, 392 and 492. Buy by the code on your old bottle.
  • Epson's 522 listing covers far more printers than most guides mention: ET-1910/1913, ET-2400/2410/2418, ET-2800/2803, ET-2840 Special Edition, ET-2900/2903, ET-4700, ET-4800/4810 and ET-4903.
  • Paper loads only from the rear feeder: 100 plain sheets, 20 photo sheets or 10 envelopes, up to legal size. The scanner is a flatbed with no document feeder.
  • Every cleaning sends ink to internal pads. When they reach end of life the printer stops until Epson services it, and Power Cleanings wear them out fastest.
