What Ink Does the Epson Expression Premium XP-620 Use?

Quick answer: The Epson Expression Premium XP-620 Small-in-One uses five Epson 273 or high-capacity Epson 273XL Claria Premium cartridges: black, photo black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 273XL Black, Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.

It does not use Epson 410; that's the XP-630/640/830 generation. The XP-620 shares Epson 273 with the XP-820 and the older XP-600, 610 and 800 series. In Europe the equivalent cartridge is Epson 26 "Polar Bear", which won't work in a U.S. printer.

What XP-620 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in Epson's owner reviews and support pages, answered in our words.

Why won't it print black when only a color is empty?

Epson printers stop when any cartridge is expended, including photo black. Replace the empty cartridge to keep printing.

A new cartridge isn't recognized. What can I do?

Reseat it firmly, check the tape is off and wipe the chip contacts. Confirm it's a 273, not a 410 or 277. If a third-party cartridge is still rejected, a recent firmware update may be the cause.

Lines across prints don't go away after cleaning.

Run a nozzle check to see which color is missing, clean once or twice, then let the printer sit for a few hours before another try. Printing a page every week keeps the nozzles from drying out.

Can it print on CDs and DVDs?

Yes. The XP-620 prints directly on printable CDs and DVDs using the tray that came with it.

It says parts have reached the end of their service life.

The waste ink pads are full. Epson says they aren't user-replaceable; contact Epson about service before deciding whether to replace the printer.
