Yes. Each cartridge is read separately, so any mix of 802 and 802XL works.
What other printers use Epson 802 ink?
Epson 802/802XL also fits the WF-4730, WF-4734, WF-4740, EC-4020, EC-4030, and EC-4040. If you own more than one, a single stock of cartridges covers them all.
Will other Epson cartridges fit the WF-4720?
No. Epson 902 (WorkForce Pro WF-C5xxx series) and Epson 822 (WF-3820 and WF-48xx) are different cartridges and won't fit. Always match the number on your current cartridge.
How do I replace the ink in the WF-4720?
Turn the printer on and lift the scanner unit. When the carriage stops, squeeze the tab on the empty cartridge and lift it out. Shake the new cartridge gently, remove only the yellow tape, and press it into its slot until it clicks. Close the scanner unit and let the printer charge the ink. Why won't the WF-4720 recognize a cartridge?
Reseat it firmly until it clicks, make sure the yellow tape is fully removed, and wipe the chip with a dry lint-free cloth. Turn the printer off for a minute. If a non-Epson cartridge stopped working right after an Epson firmware update, reseating won't help: Epson designs those updates so the printer accepts only genuine Epson cartridges. My cartridges stopped being recognized after a firmware update. What happened?
Epson builds its firmware updates so the WF-4720 works only with genuine Epson cartridges, and Epson's own FAQ tells owners to replace non-Epson ones. That includes remanufactured cartridges like ours, so if you use them, set Epson Software Updater to "Never" and keep automatic firmware updates off.
Epson discontinued my printer. Will my spare 802 cartridges fit the replacement?
No. Epson lists the WorkForce Pro WF-4830 as the replacement, and it takes Epson 822 cartridges. Use up your 802 stock in the WF-4720 or another 802 printer first.
Does the document feeder scan both sides automatically?
No. The WF-4720's 35-sheet feeder scans one side at a time. Epson kept automatic two-sided scanning from the feeder for the WF-4740, which has a 50-sheet feeder.
Can I connect it to a wired network?
Yes. It has 10/100 Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, USB and NFC.
How much printing is it built for?
Epson rates the WF-4720 for up to 25,000 pages a month, but recommends up to 1,500 pages a month for regular use. Above that, a bigger office printer makes more sense.
