What Ink Does the HP Latex 335 Use?

Quick answer: The HP Latex 335 uses seven HP 831 775 ml latex cartridges — Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan and Light Magenta inks plus the HP 831 Latex Optimizer. The same cartridges fit the HP Latex 330. Castle Ink carries all seven remanufactured: HP 831 Black (CZ682A), HP 831 Cyan (CZ683A), HP 831 Magenta (CZ684A), HP 831 Yellow (CZ685A), HP 831 Light Cyan (CZ686A), HP 831 Light Magenta (CZ687A) and the HP 831 Latex Optimizer (CZ706A).

Cartridge (Castle Ink link) Part No. Size
HP 831 Black CZ682A 775 ml
HP 831 Cyan CZ683A 775 ml
HP 831 Magenta CZ684A 775 ml
HP 831 Yellow CZ685A 775 ml
HP 831 Light Cyan CZ686A 775 ml
HP 831 Light Magenta CZ687A 775 ml
HP 831 Latex Optimizer CZ706A 775 ml

Every one of the seven slots must hold a cartridge for the printer to run. The Latex Optimizer is not optional — it is a clear fluid that fixes the colored inks to the media surface, so prints come out sharp on vinyl, banner and other non-porous materials. It empties at a similar rate to the colors, so keep a spare.

The Latex 335 is HP's 64-inch mid-range latex printer for signs, banners, vehicle graphics and wall coverings. It replaced the Latex 330 and uses the same ink. Its bigger sibling, the Latex 365, is faster but takes identical cartridges.

HP 831 775 ml cartridges fit the whole HP Latex 300 series — the Latex 310, 315, 330, 335, 360 and 365 — plus the Latex 560, Latex 370 and Latex 570. See our HP Latex 315 and HP Latex 365 guides if you run more than one. The larger Latex 370 and Latex 570 can also run HP 871 3-liter cartridges, but they accept these same HP 831 775 ml cartridges too.

Other HP 831 Supplies

The cartridges are only part of the system. The HP Latex 335 also uses four HP 831 printheads — Cyan/Black (CZ677A), Yellow/Magenta (CZ678A), Light Cyan/Light Magenta (CZ679A) and Optimizer (CZ680A) — and an HP 831 maintenance cartridge (CZ681A). These are long-life parts you replace far less often than ink.

How to Replace Ink in the HP Latex 335

  1. Wait for the front panel to report an empty cartridge, or open the ink menu and choose to replace one.
  2. Open the ink cartridge drawer or cover for the color you are replacing.
  3. Pull the empty cartridge straight out.
  4. Shake the new cartridge gently a few times before installing it — ink settles while a cartridge sits on the shelf.
  5. Push the new cartridge into the slot that matches its color label until it locks, then close the cover.
  6. Check the front panel to confirm the cartridge is recognized before you start the next job.

Troubleshooting Tips

Cartridge not recognized or "non-HP cartridge" message: Reseat the cartridge firmly. A notice that a cartridge is not original HP is normal with remanufactured ink — accept it on the front panel to continue.

Prints smear or stay tacky: Check the Optimizer cartridge first, then confirm the curing temperature and media preset match the material. Latex ink needs the Optimizer and correct curing to set properly.

Banding or missing colors: Run the printhead cleaning and alignment routines from the front panel. If a color is still missing, check the matching HP 831 printhead and the maintenance cartridge status.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the HP Latex 335 use HP 831 or HP 871?
HP 831 775 ml cartridges. HP 871 3-liter cartridges are an extra option only on the Latex 370 and 570, which also accept HP 831.

Is the Latex 335 ink the same as the Latex 330?
Yes. Both take the same seven HP 831 775 ml cartridges.

Can I print without the Latex Optimizer?
No. All seven cartridges, including the Optimizer, must be installed.

Do the Latex 310, 315, 330, 335, 360 and 365 share ink?
Yes. They all take the same HP 831 775 ml cartridges.

Does using remanufactured cartridges void my warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot void your printer warranty only because you used third-party cartridges. Damage proven to be caused by a specific cartridge would not be covered, but the rest of the warranty still applies. Service contracts (HP Care Packs) can carry their own terms, so check yours.
