What Ink Does the HP Latex 570 Use?

Quick answer: The HP Latex 570 accepts two cartridge sizes: HP 831 775 ml and HP 871 3-liter. Either way it uses seven cartridges — Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan and Light Magenta inks plus the Latex Optimizer. Castle Ink carries all seven HP 831 775 ml cartridges remanufactured: HP 831 Black (CZ682A), HP 831 Cyan (CZ683A), HP 831 Magenta (CZ684A), HP 831 Yellow (CZ685A), HP 831 Light Cyan (CZ686A), HP 831 Light Magenta (CZ687A) and the HP 831 Latex Optimizer (CZ706A).

Cartridge (Castle Ink link) Part No. Size
HP 831 Black CZ682A 775 ml
HP 831 Cyan CZ683A 775 ml
HP 831 Magenta CZ684A 775 ml
HP 831 Yellow CZ685A 775 ml
HP 831 Light Cyan CZ686A 775 ml
HP 831 Light Magenta CZ687A 775 ml
HP 831 Latex Optimizer CZ706A 775 ml

Every one of the seven slots must hold a cartridge for the printer to run. The Latex Optimizer is not optional — it is a clear fluid that fixes the colored inks to the media surface, so prints come out sharp on vinyl, banner and other non-porous materials. It empties at a similar rate to the colors, so keep a spare.

The Latex 570 is HP's 64-inch high-volume latex printer for signs, banners, vehicle wraps, wall coverings and textiles. Latex prints come out dry and ready to laminate or install, which is why busy sign shops choose it over solvent.

775 ml or 3-Liter: Which Should You Use?

HP's Latex 570 datasheet lists both the HP 831 775 ml cartridges and the HP 871 3-liter cartridges in its supplies. The 3-liter size means fewer swaps on long, unattended print runs. The 775 ml size costs far less up front, is easier to keep on the shelf in every color, and is the size remanufactured cartridges come in — which is where the savings are. Many shops run 775 ml in the colors they use less and keep the 3-liter size only for the colors they burn through fastest. Check that your printer's cartridge slots are set up for the size you plan to buy before you order.

The same HP 831 775 ml cartridges fit the Latex 310, 315, 330, 335, 360, 365, 370 and 560 too. See our HP Latex 365, HP Latex 335 and HP Latex 315 guides if you run more than one.

Other HP 831 Supplies

The Latex 570 also uses four HP 831 printheads — Cyan/Black (CZ677A), Yellow/Magenta (CZ678A), Light Cyan/Light Magenta (CZ679A) and Optimizer (CZ680A) — and an HP 831 maintenance cartridge (CZ681A). These are long-life parts you replace far less often than ink.

How to Replace Ink in the HP Latex 570

  1. Wait for the front panel to report an empty cartridge, or open the ink menu and choose to replace one.
  2. Open the ink cartridge drawer or cover for the color you are replacing.
  3. Pull the empty cartridge straight out.
  4. Shake the new cartridge gently a few times before installing it — ink settles while a cartridge sits on the shelf.
  5. Push the new cartridge into the slot that matches its color label until it locks, then close the cover.
  6. Check the front panel to confirm the cartridge is recognized before you start the next job.

Troubleshooting Tips

Cartridge not recognized or "non-HP cartridge" message: Reseat the cartridge firmly. A notice that a cartridge is not original HP is normal with remanufactured ink — accept it on the front panel to continue.

Prints smear or stay tacky: Check the Optimizer cartridge first, then confirm the curing temperature and media preset match the material. Latex ink needs the Optimizer and correct curing to set properly.

Banding or missing colors: Run the printhead cleaning and alignment routines from the front panel. If a color is still missing, check the matching HP 831 printhead and the maintenance cartridge status.

Bottom Line

The HP Latex 570 runs on seven cartridges — six colors plus the Latex Optimizer — in either the HP 831 775 ml or HP 871 3-liter size. The 775 ml size is where remanufactured savings are; keep a spare Black and Optimizer on hand and replace only the color that runs out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the HP Latex 570 use HP 831 or HP 871?
Both sizes are listed for it: HP 831 775 ml and HP 871 3-liter. Use the size your printer's slots are set up for.

Can I print without the Latex Optimizer?
No. All seven cartridges, including the Optimizer, must be installed.

Does the Latex 570 use the same printheads as the Latex 300 series?
Yes. It uses the same four HP 831 printheads and the HP 831 maintenance cartridge.

Does using remanufactured cartridges void my warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot void your printer warranty only because you used third-party cartridges. Damage proven to be caused by a specific cartridge would not be covered, but the rest of the warranty still applies. Service contracts (HP Care Packs) can carry their own terms, so check yours.
