HP 901 Ink: Common Questions

What is the difference between the standard and XL HP 901 cartridges?

HP 901 black prints about 200 pages and 901 tri-color about 360; 901XL black prints about 700 pages in the same slot. They share the same cartridge body and slot, so you can move between sizes freely.

Which printers use HP 901 ink?

HP OfficeJet 4500, OfficeJet J4524, OfficeJet J4540, OfficeJet J4550, OfficeJet J4580, OfficeJet J4624, OfficeJet J4660, OfficeJet J4680. Our Find Ink by Printer page has a guide for each model.

Will remanufactured HP 901 cartridges work in my printer?

Yes. None of the HP 901 printers are HP+ models, so there is no ink lock to worry about. Keep automatic firmware updates off as a precaution, and if a cartridge from us isn't recognized, contact us and we'll replace or refund it under our 1-year guarantee.

Standard or XL: which should I buy?

XL black in almost every case. It is the same physical size and fits the same slot, but holds more ink, so each printed page costs less. There is no XL tri-color, so the standard 901 tri-color is the only color option.
