How to Replace Ink in the HP DeskJet 2800e
- Turn on the printer and lift the front access door — the carriage will slide to the center.
- Push down gently on the empty cartridge and pull it toward you to release it.
- Unwrap the new HP 67 or 67XL cartridge and peel off the protective plastic tape — do not touch the copper contacts.
- Slide the cartridge into the matching slot (Black on the right, Tri-Color on the left) until it clicks into place.
- Close the access door. The printer will run a brief calibration page automatically.
Troubleshooting Tips
Cartridge not recognized: Remove the cartridge, wipe the gold/copper contacts with a lint-free cloth, then reinsert it firmly.
Streaky or faded prints: Run the cleaning cycle from the HP Smart app — one or two cycles typically clears clogged nozzles.
HP+ and dynamic security: HP+ is offered during setup. If it was turned on, the printer needs Original HP ink for the life of the printer, and a factory reset does not undo that. Even without HP+, the 2800e series has HP dynamic security, which blocks cartridges with non-HP chips. Remanufactured cartridges that keep the original HP chip are the safer choice.
"Cartridge problem" error: Power off the printer, remove both cartridges, then reinsert them one at a time to determine which cartridge is faulty.

No. The UK and European 2820e is set up for HP 305 and 305XL, and those cartridges are regionalized, so U.S. HP 67 is not interchangeable. Buy cartridges for the region where the printer was sold.
Will it join a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network?
No. The radio is 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz only. Connect it to your router's 2.4 GHz network.
Does any 2800e model have a document feeder?
No. They all scan one page at a time on the glass. The DeskJet 4255e is the HP 67 model with a 35-page document feeder.
How many pages a month is it built for?
HP recommends 50–100 pages a month, with a 1,000-page maximum duty cycle.
