The Epson Expression Home XP-2100 uses four Epson 212 Claria Home cartridges: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Should I buy Epson 212 or 212XL for the XP-2100?

Can I mix standard and XL cartridges?

Yes. Each cartridge is read independently, so any mix of 212 and 212XL works. Many people run an XL black with standard colors.

What other printers use Epson 212 ink?

Is Epson 212 the same as Epson 220 or 232?

How do I replace the ink in the XP-2100?

Turn the printer on and lift the scanner unit. When the carriage stops, squeeze the tab on the empty cartridge and lift it out. Shake the new cartridge gently four or five times, remove only the yellow tape, and press it into its slot until it clicks. Close the scanner unit and let the printer charge the ink (about a minute). Why won't the XP-2100 recognize a cartridge?

Reseat the cartridge firmly until it clicks, make sure the yellow tape is fully removed, and wipe the chip with a dry lint-free cloth. Power the printer off for a minute. Can the XP-2100 print if a color cartridge is empty?

Usually not. Epson printers stop printing when any cartridge is expended. On some models and drivers you can temporarily print in black only on plain paper, but plan to replace the empty color soon. Keeping a spare black on hand avoids most downtime.

Why are my prints faded, streaky, or missing a color?

Run a nozzle check from the printer's Maintenance menu, then a head cleaning (up to two or three cycles, with a short rest between them).
