How to Replace Ink in the HP DeskJet 2700e

  1. Power on the printer and wait until the carriage is idle.
  2. Open the cartridge access door — the carriage will move toward the center.
  3. Press down on the empty cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
  4. Unwrap the new cartridge and pull the orange tab to remove the protective tape — do not touch the copper contacts.
  5. Slide the cartridge in at a slight upward angle until it clicks, then close the access door.

Troubleshooting Tips

"Cartridge Problem" error: Remove both cartridges, wipe the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinsert firmly until they click.

Streaky or faded prints: From HP Smart, open Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools > Clean Printhead. Repeat up to three times if needed.

HP+ "out of ink" lockout: If you enrolled in HP+ at setup, the 2700e only accepts Original HP cartridges. Compatibles will be rejected until you contact HP to opt out of HP+.

Firmware-block warnings: If the printer rejects compatible ink after a non-HP+ firmware update, disable auto-updates in HP Smart under Printer Settings > Advanced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will compatible HP 67XL cartridges void my printer warranty?

No. The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits manufacturers from voiding your warranty for using third-party ink, as long as the ink itself didn't cause damage.

How are page yields calculated?

Yields follow the ISO/IEC 24711 standard at 5% page coverage. Photo-heavy printing will use ink faster than mixed text and graphics.

What other printers use HP 67 ink?

The HP DeskJet 1255, 2752, 2755, 2755e, 2800, 2855e, 4100, 4140, 4155e, 4255e; HP Envy 6000, 6020, 6055, 6055e, 6400, 6420, 6452, 6455, and HP Envy Pro 6400 series all share the HP 67 / 67XL family.

Does HP+ enrollment block compatible cartridges?

Yes. HP+ printers require Original HP ink for the life of the printer. If you want to use compatible HP 67XL cartridges, you must opt out of HP+ during setup or contact HP support to remove your enrollment.

Should I buy HP 67 or HP 67XL?

HP 67XL delivers roughly twice the pages of standard HP 67 for only a modest price increase, making the XL the better value for nearly every user.
