How to Read Samsung Toner Part Numbers

  • MLT-D### — black toner for ML, SL-M, SCX and Xpress mono printers. The last letter is the capacity: S = standard, L = high yield, E = extra high yield, U = ultra high yield. For example, MLT-D205S, MLT-D205L and MLT-D205E all fit the same printers but print 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 pages.
  • CLT-K/C/M/Y### — color toner. The letter after the dash is the color: K = black, C = cyan, M = magenta, Y = yellow.
  • ML-D, SCX-D, CLP- — older Samsung part numbers for earlier ML, SCX and CLP models.
  • MLT-R / SCX-R — imaging drum units, sold separately from toner on some models.

Samsung Printers Are Now Supported by HP

HP acquired Samsung's printer business in 2017, so newer boxes of Samsung-brand toner may carry HP packaging and an HP "SU" or "SV" part number alongside the original Samsung number. Your printer doesn't care: our compatible cartridges are matched to the original Samsung part number printed on your old cartridge or listed in your printer manual.

My printer says "non-genuine toner." Is that a problem?
Some Samsung printers show a notice when a non-Samsung cartridge is installed. Select OK or Continue and print as usual. If the cartridge isn't recognized, remove it, make sure all protective tape is off and reinstall it, or contact us and we'll make it right.

Which Samsung toner does my printer use?

Samsung mono lasers use the MLT-D family (D101S, D104S, D105S, D108S, D111S, D116L, D203L, D205L, D305L, D707L). Color lasers use the CLT family (CLT-K/C/M/Y 406S, 504S, 506L, 508L). Multifunction units use SCX-series codes. Look for the part number printed on your existing toner label or in the cartridge bay.

Are HP and Samsung the same now?

HP acquired Samsung's printer division in 2017. Newer Samsung-branded printers are no longer sold as new units; you'll see successors marketed as HP Laser models. However, Samsung MLT-D and CLT cartridges remain in production through compatible suppliers like Castle Ink, so your Samsung printer can keep running for years.

Will compatible Samsung toner void my warranty?

No. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents manufacturers from voiding a warranty solely because you used a third-party toner. Most Samsung printer warranties have expired, but where one is still active, our compatible cartridges do not affect it.
