What's in the Box
- 1 × HP 62XL Black MICR (C2P05AN) — genuine HP 62XL black rated at about 600 pages
Page yields are the manufacturer's ISO/IEC 24711 ratings for the matching original cartridge, measured at roughly 5% page coverage. Your results will vary with what you print.
What MICR ink does: MICR (magnetic ink character recognition) ink contains iron oxide, so bank sorting equipment can read the routing, account and check numbers printed along the bottom of a check in the E-13B font defined by the ANSI X9 standards. Use this black cartridge for printing the MICR line with check-writing software and blank check stock.
Before you print live checks: each bank sets its own acceptance rules, and some prefer MICR toner from a laser printer. Print a sample sheet and confirm with your bank before relying on it.

Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Dynamic security: HP firmware can block cartridges that use a non-HP chip, so we recommend turning off automatic firmware updates on your printer. If you see a "cartridge problem" or "used cartridge" message, select OK or Continue; if a cartridge isn't recognized, remove it, check that the protective tape is off, wipe the copper contacts and reinstall.
Still stuck? See our guide to fixing a cartridge that isn't recognized or contact us and we'll make it right.
Remanufactured vs. Compatible vs. Original
Original (OEM) cartridges are new from the printer brand and cost the most. Remanufactured cartridges, like this one, start as genuine original shells that are cleaned, refilled with high-quality ink and print-tested, so they fit like the original at a fraction of the price. Compatible cartridges are built new by a third party. Castle Ink sells remanufactured inkjet cartridges and compatible (newly manufactured) toner.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages does the HP 62XL black MICR print?
The genuine HP 62XL black is rated at about 600 pages (ISO/IEC 24711). MICR ink isn't separately rated, so expect a similar page count.
Which printers use HP 62?
HP ENVY 5540, HP ENVY 5541, HP ENVY 5542, HP ENVY 5543, HP ENVY 5544, HP ENVY 5545, HP ENVY 5546, HP ENVY 5547 and more. See the full list above.
Are the HP 62 color cartridges MICR too?
No. Only the black HP 62XL cartridge is filled with MICR ink; the HP 62 tri-color cartridge is standard ink.
Will this void my printer warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original cartridge directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.
What is a MICR ink cartridge used for?
Printing checks. MICR ink is magnetic, so bank equipment can read the routing, account and check numbers in the E-13B line at the bottom of the check.
Will my bank accept checks printed with this cartridge?
Most banks accept properly printed MICR checks, but acceptance is up to each bank. Print a sample check and ask your bank to verify it before you rely on it.
Do I need special software or paper?
Yes. You need check-writing software that prints the MICR line in the E-13B font, plus blank check stock.
How does the price compare?
HP doesn't sell a MICR version of the 62XL. TROY's 62XL-equivalent MICR ink cartridge lists at $129 on troygroup.com. This cartridge is $47.99.
How long can I store it?
Store it sealed, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, and use it within about 24 months for best results. Once opened, install it promptly.
When will my order ship?
Orders placed by 4 PM ET, Monday through Friday, ship the same business day from Long Island, NY, by USPS (2–5 business days). Expedited 1–2 day delivery is available at checkout, and shipping is free on orders over $50.
