What Ink Does the HP DeskJet 2722 Use?

Quick answer: The HP DeskJet 2722 uses two cartridges: an HP 67 or HP 67XL black and an HP 67 or HP 67XL tri-color. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured HP 67XL Black, HP 67XL Tri-color and a 67XL black + tri-color 2-pack.

It takes the same cartridges as the DeskJet 2723e, 2732, 2734e, 2742e, 2752e and 2755e. HP's U.S. spec sheet for the 2722 lists the HP 67 and 67XL. HP also lists a 2722e, the HP+ version, but its spec sheet doesn't name cartridges, so we couldn't confirm it. Printers in this family sold outside North America may use different numbers, so if the cartridge in your printer has another number, such as 305, buy by that number.

Cost per page (24%) 38 About 15.6¢ per page blended (black + color) with our remanufactured HP 67XL black (240 pages) and HP 67XL tri-color (200 pages). Limited data: We could not find enough published expert scores for this printer, so that weight is spread across the other pillars.

Hard to find new. We couldn't find a current HP Store listing for the DeskJet 2722 or 2722e, and we couldn't confirm its launch date or price. HP 67 and 67XL cartridges are still widely sold, at the HP Store and 4inkjets among others.

What Ink Cartridges Does the HP DeskJet 2722 Take?

Cartridge HP part no. Approx. yield Castle Ink option
HP 67 Black 3YM56AN ~120 pages —
HP 67XL Black (high yield) 3YM57AN ~240 pages Remanufactured HP 67XL Black
HP 67 Tri-color 3YM55AN ~100 pages —
HP 67XL Tri-color (high yield) 3YM58AN ~200 pages Remanufactured HP 67XL Tri-color
HP 67XL black + tri-color 2-pack — ~240 / 200 pages Remanufactured 67XL 2-pack

Yields are HP's figures from the 2722 spec sheet. The tri-color cartridge holds cyan, magenta and yellow, so you replace it when any one color runs low. We also sell a remanufactured HP 67XXL black cartridge and an HP 67XL black MICR cartridge for printing checks. HP's spec sheet doesn't list the 67XXL for this model.

Are HP 67XL Cartridges Worth It?

Yes. They hold twice the pages of the standard HP 67. On October 21, 2026, the HP Store listed HP's 67XL black at $35.99 (about 15¢ a page), and 4inkjets listed HP's 67XL tri-color at $40.99 (about 20.5¢ a page). 4inkjets had the standard HP 67 black at $24.99 (about 20.8¢ a page) and tri-color at $21.99 (about 22¢). Our remanufactured HP 67XL black is $32.95 (about 13.7¢ a page) and our HP 67XL tri-color is $34.95 (about 17.5¢), or $59.95 for the 2-pack, which works out to about 12.5¢ and 15¢ a page.

HP+ and dynamic security: The plain 2722 wasn't sold as an HP+ printer. The 2722e was. HP says HP+ needs an HP account and an internet connection and works only with Original HP ink, so if HP+ was turned on at setup, remanufactured cartridges, including ours, aren't an option. If you have a 2722e that isn't set up yet and want to use remanufactured cartridges, skip HP+. HP marks the DeskJet 2755, a non-HP+ model in the same 2700 series, as a dynamic security printer: it works with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip and blocks cartridges with modified or non-HP chips. HP's 2722 spec sheet doesn't say either way, so expect the same. Our 67XL cartridges are refilled original HP shells that keep the original HP chip.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP DeskJet 2722?

  1. With the printer on, open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop.
  2. Press down on the old cartridge to release it, then pull it out of its slot.
  3. Unpack the new cartridge and pull off the plastic tape. Don't touch the copper contacts or the nozzles.
  4. Slide the cartridge into its slot, tri-color on the left and black on the right, until it snaps into place.
  5. Close the cartridge access door. If the printer asks, print and scan an alignment page.

Which Other Printers Use HP 67 and 67XL?

The DeskJet 2700 series, including the 2723e, 2732, 2734e, 2742e, 2752e and 2755e; the DeskJet 1255, 2855e, 4155e and 4255e; the DeskJet Plus 4155; and the Envy 6052, 6055 and 6455e.

What DeskJet 2722 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in HP's support community and owner reviews, answered in our words.

Will remanufactured cartridges work?

Yes, if they keep an HP chip and HP+ isn't turned on. HP's dynamic security blocks cartridges with non-HP chips, and HP says firmware updates can change what the printer accepts. Our 67XL cartridges reuse the original HP chip.

The lights are blinking and it won't print.

HP has a separate guide to the blinking lights and error codes on DeskJet 2700 printers. Most patterns point to a cartridge problem, a paper jam or a carriage that can't move. Reseat both cartridges, clear any paper, and check that the tape is off a new cartridge.

Does it print on both sides?

Only by hand. HP lists manual two-sided printing with driver support, so the printer prints one side and tells you how to reload the pages.

Can I print from my phone?

Yes. HP lists Apple AirPrint, Mopria and the HP app, and the printer has built-in Wi-Fi as well as a USB port.

DeskJet 2722 quirks worth knowing

  • HP rates it at up to 7.5 pages a minute in black (ISO, A4).
  • The input tray holds 60 sheets, and there's a flatbed scanner but no document feeder and no fax.
  • It has a small icon LCD rather than a screen, so most settings are done from the HP app.
  • HP recommends 50 to 100 pages a month, with a duty cycle of up to 1,000 pages.
