What Ink Does the HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 Use?

Quick answer: The HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 uses four separate HP 910 cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. The high-yield HP 910XL versions fit too, and so does the extra-high-yield HP 916XL black. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 910XL cartridges with the original HP chip: 910XL Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.

The 8030 belongs to HP's OfficeJet Pro 8020 family and takes the same ink as the OfficeJet Pro 8025, 8025e and 8035e. HP 912 and 917 are the European versions and won't work in a U.S. printer.

Hard to find new. HP still runs a support page for the OfficeJet Pro 8030 series, but we found no current U.S. retail listing. HP 910 cartridges are still sold everywhere.

HP has quietly cut its 910XL ratings. HP.com now lists the 910XL black at about 720 pages, down from the 825 many listings still show, and Staples lists the 910XL colors at about 700. Standard 910 yields above come from retailer listings.

Is HP 910XL Worth It?

Yes. On October 15, 2026, Staples listed HP's 910XL black at $56.89 (about 7.9¢ a page) and the 910XL cyan at $31.89. Our remanufactured 910XL black with the original HP chip is $26.99 (about 3.7¢ a page), and each 910XL color is $11.99. The 8030 checks cartridge chips, so pick versions that keep HP's chip.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP OfficeJet Pro 8030?

  1. Turn the printer on and open the cartridge access door on the front.
  2. Wait for the carriage to move into view and stop.
  3. Press the front of the old cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
  4. Unpack the new cartridge and push it into the slot of the same color until it clicks.
  5. Close the access door. If the printer asks, print and scan the alignment page.

What OfficeJet Pro 8030 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in HP's support community and owner reviews, answered in our words.

What does a 'Printhead Problem' or event code 62.80.03 mean?

The printer can't start up its printhead or ink system. Unplug it for a minute, plug it straight into the wall, clear anything from the carriage path and reseat the cartridges. If the code keeps coming back, it usually needs HP service.

The carriage is stuck on one side. What should I check?

Look for paper scraps or packing material in the carriage path, power-cycle the printer and gently wipe the clear encoder strip behind the carriage. Don't force the carriage by hand.

Why did my cartridges stop working after an update?

HP's dynamic security can block cartridges whose chips HP didn't make. Cartridges that keep the original HP chip, like ours, are the safest bet.

Does it scan both sides automatically?

No. The 35-sheet document feeder scans one side at a time, though the printer prints two-sided pages on its own.

OfficeJet Pro 8030 quirks worth knowing

  • HP doesn't publish a separate spec sheet for the 8030. It shares the 8020 family's ink system, and the OfficeJet Pro 8025 is rated at 20 ISO pages a minute in black and 10 in color.
  • The 8020 family has a 35-sheet document feeder, a 225-sheet tray and a 2.7-inch touchscreen.
  • It prints, copies, scans and faxes over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or USB.
  • HP 910 ink is pigment-based, so text resists smudging.
