Correction (October 2026): an earlier version of this guide said that declining HP+ or doing a factory reset lets any compatible 910XL work. The 8015e has HP dynamic security, which blocks cartridges with non-HP chips whether or not HP+ is on, and HP+ can't be removed once it is enabled. It also listed 910XL yields of about 825 pages; HP's current ratings are about 720 black and 700 per color.

How to Replace Ink in the HP OfficeJet 8015e
- Power on the printer and open the front ink-cartridge access door — the carriage will glide to the center.
- Press in on the front of the empty cartridge to release it, then lift it out of the slot.
- Unwrap the new HP 910 or 910XL cartridge and pull off the orange protective tab — do not touch the gold contacts.
- Slide the new cartridge into its color-matched slot at a slight upward angle until it clicks firmly into place.
- Close the access door. The printer will run a short alignment routine and may print an alignment page.
Troubleshooting Tips
"Used or counterfeit cartridge" alert: HP shows this for cartridges with a reused HP chip, which is what remanufactured cartridges have. Press OK or Continue and the cartridge prints. Cartridges with non-HP chips can be blocked outright on this printer, and a firmware update can block ones that worked before.
HP+ enrollment lock: HP+ is offered during setup. If you accept it, the printer requires Original HP ink for its life, and HP's community experts say it can't be undone. Decline it at setup if you plan to use remanufactured cartridges. Declining HP+ doesn't turn off dynamic security, so cartridges still need an HP chip.
Streaky prints or missing colors: Run the cleaning cycle from the HP Smart app or the Setup → Tools → Clean Printhead menu. One or two cycles usually clears clogged nozzles.
Cartridge not detected: Power-cycle the printer, then remove and reinsert the affected cartridge. Wipe the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth if needed.

In practice, no. HP Community experts say HP+ can't be removed once it is enabled, and HP+ requires Original HP ink for the life of the printer. An HP agent suggested cancelling and factory-resetting, but the owner found the reset did not bring back the option to skip HP+.
My new 8015e reports a paper jam on every job, but there's no paper stuck.
HP support's steps: turn the printer off and unplug it, open the rear access panel, take out the tray and clear any scraps, then check that the tray guides sit snugly against the paper and the paper settings match what is loaded.
It shows an error code like 0xB8000684 when I print.
Owners on HP's forum have cleared these with a full power cycle and by reseating the cartridges. A factory reset is the last step, and it won't remove HP+ if you enrolled.
Does an HP+ printer need to stay online?
