Retired. Canon no longer sells or supports the MG3122; it sells used only. PG-240 and CL-241 cartridges are still widely sold.

What Does MG3122 Ink Cost per Page?
On October 30, 2026, Staples listed Canon's PG-240XL at $33.00, PG-240XXL at $47.99 and CL-241XL at $49.99: about 11¢, 8¢ and 12.5¢ a page. The standard PG-240 was $27.99, about 15.5¢ a page. Our remanufactured PG-240XXL is $24.99 (about 4.2¢ a page) and our CL-241XL is $25.95 (about 6.5¢ a page).
Will Remanufactured Ink Work?
Yes. Each PG-240 and CL-241 is a FINE cartridge with its own print head, so a fresh cartridge also brings fresh nozzles, and we know of no Canon firmware that blocks remanufactured cartridges in this printer. Canon does not update the MG3122 anymore, so no new lockout is coming. Expect the ink-level readout to be unreliable with a refilled cartridge: if support code 1686 appears, hold the Stop button for about 5 seconds to keep printing.
How Do I Replace the Ink in the MG3122?
- Turn the printer on and open the paper output tray and the front cover; the cartridge holder slides to the center.
- Push the empty cartridge down until it unlocks, then lift it out.
- Unpack the new cartridge and peel off the protective tape. Do not touch the gold contacts or the nozzles.
- Slide the cartridge into its slot at a slight upward angle: black on the right, color on the left.
- Push it up until it clicks into place.
- Close the front cover and run a nozzle check from the driver to confirm both cartridges print.
These are the standard steps for this type of printer. If your model's door label shows a different order, follow the label.
Which Other Printers Use PG-240 and CL-241?
The PIXMA MG2120, MG2220, MG3120, MG3220, MG3520, MG3620, MG4120 and MG4220, the MX372, MX392, MX432, MX452, MX472, MX512, MX522 and MX532, and the TS5120 all take PG-240 and CL-241, so one stock of cartridges covers any of them.
What MG3122 owners ask
These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, manufacturer support communities and owner reviews, answered in our words.
I moved and lost the USB cable. How do I put it on my new Wi-Fi?
If your router has a WPS button, use the printer's WPS push-button setup, which Canon's Getting Started guide walks through. Without WPS, Canon's setup for this model needs the USB cable for a few minutes while the driver passes along the network settings, so a spare USB printer cable is the simplest fix.
What does support code B200 mean?
Canon treats it as a print head or hardware fault. Try reseating both cartridges and powering off for a few minutes; if the code returns with a known-good pair of cartridges, the printer usually needs service, which rarely makes sense on a model this age.
What does support code 5B00 mean?
The waste-ink absorber inside the printer is full. It needs a service reset or pad replacement, and it shows up most on printers that run a lot of cleaning cycles.
My Mac does not see it. Is there a driver?
Canon has retired the MG3122 and no longer updates its software, so recent macOS versions may not have a matching Canon driver. Check Canon's MG3122 support page for the last driver posted, and connect over Wi-Fi rather than USB if one is available.
MG3122 quirks worth knowing
- It prints and copies on both sides automatically, a feature the lower-priced MG2120 lacks.
- There is no screen, only a small 7-segment LED and a Wi-Fi lamp; error codes appear on your computer or as blinking lights.
- Paper loads from the rear into a 100-sheet feeder.
- Borderless printing is limited to 4 × 6 in, at about 44 seconds a photo.
