What Ink Does the HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium Use?

Quick answer: The HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One (H711n) uses four cartridges: HP 932 black and HP 933 cyan, magenta and yellow. The high-yield 932XL is rated for about 1,000 pages and each 933XL for about 825. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 932XL Black, 933XL Cyan, 933XL Magenta, 933XL Yellow and a 4-pack.

The 6700 takes exactly the same cartridges as the OfficeJet 6600. The black and color numbers differ because the 932 black is a larger pigment cartridge and the 933 colors are smaller separate tanks. All four must be installed for the printer to work.

What Ink Cartridges Does the HP OfficeJet 6700 Take?

Cartridge HP part no. (standard / XL) Approx. yield (standard / XL) Castle Ink option
HP 932 Black CN057AN / CN053AN ~400 / ~1,000 pages Remanufactured 932XL Black

HP 933 Yellow CN060AN / CN056AN ~330 / ~825 pages Remanufactured 933XL Yellow

Yields are HP's ISO estimates. There is no XXL version of either cartridge. If you print checks, Castle Ink also carries a 932XL MICR black made with magnetic ink.

Is 932XL / 933XL Worth It?

Yes. The XL cartridges hold two and a half times the ink of the standard ones and fit the same slots. Original HP 932XL black was $59.99 at Staples on October 12, 2026, about 6¢ a page. Our remanufactured 932XL is $17.95, about 1.8¢ a page, and each 933XL color is $16.95, about 2¢ per cartridge. You can run your own numbers in our printer ink cost calculator.

The 6700 was not on the lists of OfficeJets hit by HP's 2016 cartridge-blocking firmware, but HP can change that with any update. If you use remanufactured ink, read how to stop HP firmware updates from blocking your ink.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP OfficeJet 6700?

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  3. Press the front of the empty cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
  4. Unpack the new 932 or 933 and remove any orange tab. Don't touch the copper contacts.
  5. Match the color-coded letter to the slot, slide the cartridge in until it clicks, and close the door. Don't power off with a slot empty; HP warns it can damage the ink system.

Which Other Printers Use HP 932 and 933?

The OfficeJet 6600, OfficeJet 6100 ePrinter, OfficeJet 7110 Wide Format, OfficeJet 7510, and the OfficeJet 7610 and 7612 Wide Format all use the same 932/933 cartridges. Don't confuse them with HP 950/951 (OfficeJet Pro 8600 series) or HP 902 (OfficeJet 6900 series), which look similar but don't fit.

What OfficeJet 6700 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, manufacturer support communities and owner reviews, answered in our words.

What does "printhead appears to be missing or not detected" mean?

The 6700 has a separate printhead that sits in the carriage under the cartridges. HP's support agents treat this message as a hardware fault. Power-cycle the printer and reseat the cartridges first; if it comes back, the printhead or carriage has failed, not the ink.

Can I mix XL and standard cartridges?

Yes, they are designed to be interchangeable. Some owners get a "print system error" right after swapping a 933XL for a standard 933. Reseat the cartridge, wipe its contacts and power-cycle the printer, which usually clears it.

Are the OfficeJet 6600 and 6700 cartridges the same?

Yes. Both use HP 932 and 933, and HP's own replacement instructions cover the two models together.

Does the 6700 work with HP Instant Ink?

No. It isn't on HP's Instant Ink compatible printer list, so you buy cartridges as you need them.

Can I print in black only if a color runs out?

No. All four cartridges need ink installed. Replace the empty color and black printing resumes.

OfficeJet 6700 quirks worth knowing

  • It uses pigment-based inks, which give sharp text and water-resistant prints on plain paper.
  • The box ships with reduced-capacity setup cartridges, so the first set runs out quickly.
  • Its Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only, but it also has an Ethernet port and a fax line.
  • It is rated for up to 12,000 pages a month, with 200 to 800 recommended.
