What Toner Does the Brother MFC-L9570CDW Use?

Quick answer: The Brother MFC-L9570CDW uses TN436 super-high-yield toner (about 6,500 pages per color) or TN439 ultra-high-yield toner (about 9,000 pages per color) in black, cyan, magenta and yellow. It ships with TN436 cartridges.

Its drum is the DR433CL, not the DR431CL used by the MFC-L8900CDW, and it also takes a BU330CL belt and WT320CL waste toner box. The TN229 and TN227 toners for Brother's smaller color lasers do not fit. Castle Ink sells compatible TN436 toner in all four colors, plus a TN436 4-pack.

What Does MFC-L9570CDW Toner Cost per Page?

On November 2, 2026, Brother USA listed the TN436BK at $108.29 (about 1.7¢ a page), the TN439BK at $111.49 (about 1.2¢) and the TN439C at $187.49 (about 2.1¢ a page per color); 4inkjets listed Brother's TN436 colors at $199.99 each (about 3.1¢). Our compatible TN436BK is $54.95 (about 0.85¢ a page) and our TN436 colors are $69.95 each (about 1.1¢ a page per color).

Will Compatible Toner Work?

Yes. The TN436 is the same cartridge Brother lists for the MFC-L8900CDW and HL-L8360CDW, and compatible TN436 toner is widely used in all of them. You can mix sizes, for example a TN439 black with TN436 colors. Brother's warranty language excludes damage caused by non-Brother supplies, not the use of them. If the printer shows "No Toner" after a swap, take the drum unit out, reseat the cartridge until it locks, and slide the drum back in fully.

How Do I Replace the Toner in the MFC-L9570CDW?

  1. With the printer on, press the front cover release and open the front cover.
  2. Hold the green handle of the drum unit and pull it out until it stops.
  3. Hold the handle of the empty toner cartridge, push it gently forward to unlock it, then lift it out of the drum unit.
  4. Unpack the new cartridge, shake it gently side to side and remove the protective cover.
  5. Lower the new cartridge into the matching color slot until it locks in place.
  6. Slide the green corona-wire tab back and forth a few times for each color, then return it to its home position.
  7. Push the drum unit back into the printer and close the front cover.

These are the standard steps for this printer family. If your model's door label shows a different order, follow the label.

Which Other Printers Use TN436?

Brother lists the TN436 for the HL-L8360CDW, HL-L8360CDWT, HL-L9310CDW, MFC-L8895CDW, MFC-L8900CDW, MFC-L8905CDW and MFC-L9570CDW. Only the HL-L9310CDW shares the MFC-L9570CDW's TN439 ultra-high-yield toner and DR433CL drum; the others use the DR431CL drum.

What MFC-L9570CDW owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, manufacturer support pages and owner reviews, answered in our words.

Will TN433 high-yield toner fit?

Some aftermarket sellers, including 4inkjets, list TN433 for this printer, but Brother USA lists only the TN436 and TN439 for the MFC-L9570CDW. The printer ships with TN436, and TN436 costs less per page anyway, so we would stick with TN436 or TN439.

Is the drum the same as the MFC-L8900CDW's?

No. The MFC-L9570CDW takes the DR433CL, which Brother lists only for this model and the HL-L9310CDW. The DR431CL from the MFC-L8900CDW and HL-L8360CDW is a different part number.

Why is two-sided color printing so slow?

IT Pro measured duplex printing at around 15 pages per minute, about half the single-sided speed, and CDW reviewers say the same. For long two-sided color jobs, plan on the extra time.

Why does it ask for a new drum or fuser so early?

Some CDW reviewers say the replacement warnings appear well before print quality drops. Drum life depends on job size (Brother rates the DR433CL at 30,000 pages one page at a time), so check a test print before buying parts.

MFC-L9570CDW quirks worth knowing

  • It is big and heavy: IT Pro weighed it at 29.7 kg, about 65 pounds, so plan on two people to move it.
  • The 80-sheet ADF scans both sides in one pass (up to 104 images per minute), and the paper supply expands to 2,380 sheets with Brother's tower tray.
  • CDW reviewers say envelopes will not feed from the optional lower trays, so they go through the 50-sheet multipurpose tray.
  • CDW reviewers also report Wi-Fi drop-outs and a heavy scanner lid; IT Pro saw some banding in large blocks of solid color.
