What Ink Does the HP OfficeJet 7410 Use?

Quick answer: The HP OfficeJet 7410 uses two cartridges: an HP 94 black and an HP 95 tri-color. The high-capacity HP 96 black and HP 97 tri-color fit the same slots. For photos you can swap the black for an HP 99 photo or HP 100 gray photo cartridge. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured HP 96 Black, HP 97 Tri-color, HP 94 Black, HP 95 Tri-color and HP 100 Gray Photo.

The 7410 shares its cartridges with the OfficeJet 7310 and 7410xi. The OfficeJet H470 takes the same HP 94 black and HP 95 and 97 tri-colors, and the DeskJet 6940 takes the HP 96 black and the same tri-colors. In the UK and Europe the same cartridges carry different numbers (HP 338, 339, 343 and 344), so U.S. buyers should shop by the 94 to 97 numbers.

Discontinued. HP released the OfficeJet 7410 around 2004 and now treats it as an obsolete model. Original HP 94, 95, 96 and 97 cartridges show as backordered at some sellers, and the HP 99 and 100 photo cartridges are listed as discontinued.

Are HP 96 and 97 Worth It?

Yes. On October 15, 2026, LD Products listed HP's 96 black at $52.99 (about 6.2¢ a page) and the 97 tri-color at $84.58 (about 15.1¢ a page), both backordered. The smaller 94 black was $53.45, so the 96 is the better buy. Our remanufactured HP 96 black and HP 97 tri-color are $12.95 each, or about 1.5¢ and 2.3¢ a page.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP OfficeJet 7410?

  1. Turn the printer on and lift the print-carriage access door. Wait for the carriage to move to the center and stop.
  2. Push down on the old cartridge, then pull it out of its slot (tri-color on the left, black or photo on the right).
  3. Unpack the new cartridge and pull off the pink tape. Don't touch the copper contacts or the nozzles.
  4. Slide the cartridge in at a slight upward angle and push until it snaps into place.
  5. Close the access door, load plain paper and follow the prompt to align the cartridges.

Which Other Printers Use HP 94, 95, 96 and 97?

The OfficeJet 7310, 7310xi and 7410xi take the same set. The OfficeJet H470 takes the HP 94, 95 and 97. Seller listings show the HP 96 black for the DeskJet 5740, 5940, 6540, 6940 and 9800.

What OfficeJet 7410 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in HP's support community and owner reviews, answered in our words.

Can I use an HP 96 instead of an HP 94?

Yes. The HP 96 is the high-capacity black for the same slot, at about 860 pages against about 480 for the HP 94.

What does 'Scanner Failure' mean?

The scanner carriage has stalled, often at the right side of the glass, and the printer locks up. Try a full power reset and check under the glass for anything blocking it. If it keeps coming back, it's usually a worn scanner motor or carriage.

It won't recognize my color cartridge.

Take it out, wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge and in the carriage with a lint-free cloth, reseat it and turn the printer off and on.

How do I print photos with more colors?

Swap the black cartridge for an HP 99 photo or HP 100 gray photo cartridge and keep the tri-color in. HP lists both photo cartridges as discontinued, so stock is getting thin.

OfficeJet 7410 quirks worth knowing

  • HP rated it at up to 30 pages a minute in black and 20 in color in draft mode. It predates ISO speed ratings, so real-world pages come out slower.
  • It has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), Ethernet, USB and PictBridge, which was unusual for an all-in-one of its time.
  • There's a 2.5-inch color screen and a memory card reader, plus color fax with 150 pages of fax memory.
  • HP's full software won't install easily on newer Windows. The basic Windows driver or a network connection is the usual workaround.
