How to Replace the Toner and Drum
- Power on the Brother MFC-7340 and open the front cover.
- Pull out the toner/drum assembly as a single unit.
- To replace just the toner, push the green lock lever and separate the toner from the drum, then snap in the new TN-330 or TN-360 cartridge.
- To replace the drum, install the existing toner into the new DR-360 drum unit.
- Slide the assembly back into the printer, close the cover, and reset the drum counter if you replaced the drum.
Troubleshooting Tips
"Replace Toner" or low-toner warning: There is no toner reset to do from the panel. A new cartridge resets the count through its reset gear. If the message stays on, the cartridge was probably refilled without a new gear.
Faded or streaky prints: Gently rock the toner cartridge side-to-side to redistribute toner, then reinstall. If streaks remain, clean the corona wire by sliding the green tab back and forth several times.
Drum error: After installing a new DR-360, open the front cover, press Clear, then press 1 to answer Replace Drum?. Close the cover when the screen shows Accepted.
Paper jams or smudges: Inspect the paper path and pickup roller for wear. Replacing worn rollers and keeping the printer dust-free prevents repeated print-quality issues.

Can I print to the MFC-7340 over my network or Wi-Fi?
No. USB is its only computer connection. The MFC-7440N (Ethernet) and MFC-7840W (Wi-Fi and Ethernet) are the networked versions, and they take the same toner and drum.
Do I need to reset anything after putting in a new toner cartridge?
Normally no. A new TN-330 or TN-360 has a small reset gear that tells the printer a fresh cartridge is in. A refilled or remanufactured cartridge without a new gear is what leaves Replace Toner on the screen.
Is its fax as fast as the MFC-7840W's?
No. The MFC-7340 has a 14.4K bps fax modem, against the 33.6K Super G3 modem in the MFC-7840W. Its 16 MB memory holds about 500 fax pages.
MFC-7340 quirks worth knowing
- The printer tells the TN-330 and TN-360 apart by the reset gear on the cartridge. Starter cartridges have no reset gear at all.
- Streaks down the page are usually the corona wire. Slide the green tab on the DR-360 back and forth a few times, then return it to its home position before reinstalling.
- Brother rates it at up to 21 pages a minute, with a 250-sheet tray plus a single-sheet manual feed slot.
