Should I buy HP 564 or 564XL?

Can I mix standard and high-yield cartridges?
Yes. Each cartridge is read separately, so any mix of standard and high-yield sizes works.
What other printers use HP 564/564XL?
The same cartridges fit the DeskJet 3520, Photosmart 5520, Photosmart 6510, Photosmart 6520, Photosmart 7510, Photosmart 7520, OfficeJet 4620, DeskJet 3070A, and Photosmart B109, B209, and B210. If you own more than one, a single stock covers them all.
Will other HP cartridges fit the B110?
No. HP 364 is the same shape but is sold outside North America and is region-coded, so it won't work in a U.S. printer. HP 920 (OfficeJet 6500) and HP 60/61 are different sizes. Always match the number on your current cartridge.

How do I replace the ink in the B110?
Turn the printer on and lift the cartridge access door; wait for the carriage to stop. Press the tab on the empty cartridge and pull it out. Unwrap the new cartridge, pull off the orange tab or cap (don't touch the copper contacts), and slide it into its color-coded slot until it clicks. Why does the B110 say a cartridge is missing, damaged, or incompatible?
Reseat the cartridge until it clicks, make sure all protective tape is off, and wipe the copper contacts with a dry lint-free cloth. Power the printer off for a minute. If it only rejects third-party cartridges after an update, the firmware is the cause. Why are B110 prints faded, streaky, or missing a color?
The print head is a separate part on this model, not part of the cartridges, so a new cartridge won't fix a clog on its own. Run the printer's Clean Printhead tool once or twice, then print a quality report. If a color is still missing, let it rest a few hours and clean again. My B110 shows a printhead error. Do I need a new printer?
Not always. The printhead lifts out, and owners on HP's forum have revived clogged ones by flushing them with hot water, or swapped in the printhead from a cheap used B110.
What does error 0xc19a003 "Ink system failure" mean?
A volunteer on HP's forum linked it to the printhead assembly or the power supply. Try a full power reset with the cartridges and printhead removed. If it comes back, it is a hardware fault.
Can I print photos straight from a memory card?
Yes. It has slots for SD, MMC and Memory Stick Duo cards.
Does it print double-sided automatically?
No. Two-sided printing is manual: you turn the pages over and feed them back in.
Can I keep plain paper and photo paper loaded at the same time?
No. There is one 80-sheet tray, and it holds plain or photo paper, not both. Swap paper between jobs.
Photosmart B110 quirks worth knowing
- Unlike the DeskJet 3520, which shares its HP 564 cartridges, the B110's printhead is a separate part you can remove. HP charged about €50 for a new one in Europe; we found no U.S. part number.
- The control panel is HP's "TouchSmart" frame: a 2.4-inch screen ringed by six lit, touch-sensitive buttons. It is not a touchscreen.
- TrustedReviews measured processing pauses of up to 25 seconds before a job starts printing, and wireless setup asked for the printer's IP address to be typed in.
- In TrustedReviews' test, the printer rejected its cartridges at first install until an HP support button sequence cleared it. HP 564 cartridges are region-coded, so buy them for the region the printer was sold in.
