Which HP ink cartridge does my printer use?

HP uses dozens of different cartridge numbers depending on your model. Common families include HP 60/61/62/63/64/65/67 for DeskJet and ENVY printers, HP 902/910/932/950 for OfficeJet, and HP 564/920 for older Photosmart models. Check the existing cartridge in your printer or the inside of the cartridge access door for the number, then search that number on Castle Ink to find compatible replacements.

What's the difference between HP standard and XL cartridges?

XL cartridges (like HP 63XL or HP 902XL) hold significantly more ink than standard cartridges and print roughly 2-3 times more pages. Standard cartridges have a lower upfront price but a higher cost per page. If you print more than a handful of pages per week, XL cartridges almost always deliver better value—and the discount is even larger when you choose Castle Ink's compatible XL versions.

Will compatible HP cartridges void my printer warranty?

No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, manufacturers cannot void your printer warranty simply because you use a third-party cartridge. HP cannot deny warranty coverage just because you installed compatible ink. The only exception is if a defective cartridge directly causes printer damage—which is extremely rare with our quality-tested products.

My HP printer says "cartridge not recognized." What should I do?

First, remove the cartridge, gently wipe the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinstall it firmly until you hear a click. If the error persists, power-cycle the printer (unplug for 60 seconds, then plug back in). HP printers occasionally show this message after a firmware update; reinstalling or "accepting" the cartridge through the printer's control panel usually clears it. How long do compatible HP ink cartridges last?

Sealed compatible HP cartridges have a 2-year shelf life from the date of manufacture when stored properly (cool, dry, out of direct sunlight). Once installed, page yields are equivalent to OEM cartridges of the same standard or XL designation—typically 120-330 pages for standard cartridges and 480-825 pages for XL versions, depending on the model and what you print.
