What Ink Does the HP DeskJet 3054A Use?

Quick answer: The HP DeskJet 3054A e-All-in-One (J611j) uses two HP 61 cartridges: one black and one tri-color. The high-yield HP 61XL versions fit too, and so do HP's newer 61 part numbers, C0PA4AN and C0PA5AN. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 61XL Black, 61XL Tri-color and a 61XL combo pack.

The 3054A belongs to HP's DeskJet 3050A (J611) series. It isn't the same printer as the older DeskJet 3050 (J610), but both take HP 61, as do the 3052A and 2050. Retailers sometimes drop the A, but HP's U.S. name is 3054A. The UK and European 3050A takes HP 301 cartridges, which won't fit a U.S. printer.

HP now sells newer HP 61 cartridges alongside CH563WN and CH564WN. The new 61XL black, C0PA4AN, is rated at about 360 pages against 430 for CH563WN, and the new tri-color, C0PA5AN, at about 200. Staples marks CH563WN as discontinued soon and shows CH564WN out of stock.

Is HP 61XL Worth It?

Yes. On October 16, 2026, Staples listed HP's 61XL black CH563WN at $64.89 (about 15.1¢ a page) and the new 61 tri-color C0PA5AN at $52.99 for about 200 pages (about 26.5¢ a page). The 300-page 61XL tri-color was $71.99 and out of stock. Our remanufactured 61XL black is $23.95 (about 5.6¢ a page) and the 61XL tri-color $24.95 (about 8.3¢ a page), or $35.99 for the combo pack.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP DeskJet 3054A?

With the printer on, open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center and stop.
Press down on the old cartridge to release it, then pull it toward you. Tri-color goes on the left, black on the right.
Unwrap the new HP 61 or 61XL and pull off the plastic tape without touching the copper contacts.
Slide the cartridge into its slot and push until it clicks.
Close the door. Follow the display's prompt to load plain paper and align the cartridges if it asks.

Is the 3054A the same as the DeskJet 3050?

No. The 3054A is in the 3050A e-All-in-One (J611) series, with HP ePrint and AirPrint. The plain 3050 is the older J610. Both use HP 61 cartridges.

Why won't it connect to my Wi-Fi?

HP's spec says it works only with 2.4 GHz networks. Connect it to your router's 2.4 GHz band, or use WPS or HP Auto Wireless Connect, and run HP's setup again.

A cartridge message won't go away after I changed cartridges.

Clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and in the carriage, reseat both cartridges and try a factory reset. If the message stays, contact HP.

Can I print from an iPhone?

Yes. It supports AirPrint, and you can also email documents to it with HP ePrint.
